Date 10/29/2008

The Batavia Public Library will offer the following book discussion and programs for adults and teens during November. Registration is recommended. For more information or to register, call (630) 879-4777, or register online at
www.BataviaPublicLibrary.org.

Jack Waddick, eBay University instructor, presents “eBay Advanced Selling,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 4. Waddick will outline the steps to successful eBay selling during this lively program, which includes real-time demonstrations on eBay.com and a Q&A session.

Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War by Nathaniel Philbrick will be discussed at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 11. While the basic story of the Pilgrims is widely known, the events of the five decades after their arrival at Plymouth are surprisingly unfamiliar, fascinating, and relevant today. Philbrick brings to life the legendary and less well-know Pilgrims and Native Americans who forged a relationship that eventually was destroyed by war. Copies of the book are available at the Library Check Out Desk.

The Anime Club will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, November 13. Teens age 13 and older who are interested in anime, a style of animation that originated in Japan, and manga, a style of comics, are invited to attend. Every month club members preview a new anime movie. Registration is not required. For more information call Lee Blakley, (630) 879-4777.

“The Election is Over: What’s Next” will be presented at 7 p.m., Monday, November 17. Paul Green, WGN Radio political analyst, Daily Herald guest columnist, professor, and author, will offer an analysis of the 2008 presidential, state and local elections. Green will ponder the political game plan of the new administration, and preview the 2010 gubernatorial election – for which he recommend people “buckle their seatbelts.”

“U.S. – China Economic Relations: Evolving Rivalry” is the subject for the Great Decisions discussion group, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, at Batavia Public Library. Great Decisions is based on a guide developed by the Foreign Policy Association and examines the global challenges affecting our lives today. The discussion group will not meet in December.

The Batavia Artist Guild will host a reception and exhibit, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 21, in the Library Meeting Room. The guild is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year. The exhibit continues throughout the weekend during the regular Library hours.

Homebound Delivery Service: Batavia Public Library offers home delivery service to Library cardholders who are homebound due to illness or infirmity. Books and other Library materials are delivered to the Holmstad, Riverrain, and Heritage Woods senior living complexes, by the Library’s home delivery assistant every two weeks. Deliveries to private residences are determined on an individual basis. There is no charge for this service. For more information or to request this service, call (630) 879-1393, ext. 340.

The Library will close at 5 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, and will be closed Thursday, November 27 for Thanksgiving
