PUT A LOTTA LATIN
IN YOUR LIFE

web1

Date 10/30/2008

If you’re curious about the names of the plants in your garden, if you’ve wondered how a certain animal got such a funny name, or if you are befuddled by scientific monikers, then come to Pottawatomie Community Center in St. Charles on Wednesday, Nov 5 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. for a class about names!

“Put a Lotta Latin in Your Life” will cover not only Latin names for plants and animals, but Greek, Native American and vernacular names as well. Naturalists Valerie Blaine and Erica Lemon of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County will present the fun side of scientific names and un-muddle the mumbo-jumbo of scientific nomenclature. We’ll discuss how and why scientific names are used and reveal some of the folklore behind common regional names as well.

This class is part of the ongoing program series “Learn from the Experts,” co-sponsored by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, the St. Charles Park District, the Geneva Park District, and the Fox Valley Park District.

Registration and a fee of $10 are required. Call (847) 741-8350 or e-mail
